EXIST IN PHOTOS FOR THOSE WHO LOVE YOU…. THEY WILL THANK YOU FOR IT!
I’m a photographer which means I know the importance of photographs.
They are memories that last a life time and will be cherished by those who love you; your children, your grand children and then their children.
Our memories in our minds can sometimes get a bit faded with time but memories in a photograph never fade! They are always there for you to remember back to past events and happy times.
In the photograph above, we can see a mum with her 3 daughters. You’re probably wondering why a mum and her 3 daughters were all wearing wedding gowns and getting wet at the beach!
Can you see the smiles on their faces? That day means so much to those 3 girls.
You see, their mum is no longer with them. They now have only their memories of her.
I took this photo back when I first started learning photography. A friend asked me to do her a huge favour.
At the time I didn’t realise how huge it was! She asked me to take photographs of this very special family.
The mum knew she would never see any of her daughters get married which broke her heart. Their weddings would be one of many things in her daughter’s lives she would never see. She wouldn’t see them all finish school, she wouldn’t see them dressed up for their school formal, she wouldn’t be there for them when they had their own children.
All the things we take for granted……
The mum wanted to create memories for her daughters to cherish when she was gone and they came up with the idea of the wedding dresses at the beach and what an amazing day it was!
We all went down to the beach where I took photos of them. Technically they weren’t the best photos as I was still learning but that was irrelevant because we were creating memories for those girls that they will cherish forever.
Some time during the day they all decided it would be a great idea to get wet! So down to the water we went.
The passers by must have wondered what on earth was going on. It was quite a scene to come across. Not one that many people would see in their life time.
All they saw were four brides walking into the water. They could never have imagined the full story behind it.
I know some of us including myself, don’t like having photos taken as we don’t like how we look in them.
But I’m here to tell you, our loved ones really don’t care if we are having a bad hair day or our butt isn’t as small as we would like it to be! The only thing they care about is the person they love is in the photos, creating memories that will be treasured for a long time after we are gone.
You owe it to your family to exist in photographs. You are worth it! One day those photographs are all your loved ones will have left and trust me, they will thank you for leaving them something so precious and loved.
Definitely something to think about next time you decide not to be in the photo……
